On the 1st November 2011 East Lancashire Wing and East Cheshire South Manchester Wing stood down. At the same time Greater Manchester Wing was formed comprising of most units from both wings.

The new wing has some 1300 cadets and 365 staff in 36 Squadrons and one Detached Flight. Headquarters of the new Wing is situated within University Barracks, Manchester.
