Flight Lieutenant Eddie Kay
BSc PGCE RAFVR(T)
Eddie joined 723 (Wigan) Sqaudron in 1975 reaching
the rank of Cadet Warrant Officer, before leaving in September
1980 to study for a degree in Applied Sciences.
He rejoined Wigan Squadron in October 1984 as
a Civilian Instructor and following a year at 2527(Lawnswood)
Squadron in Leeds whilst undertaking Teacher Training, returned
again to Wigan in 1986.
In Nov 1987, he was Commissioned at Wigan
and became the Commanding Officer (CO) in October 1990. In January 1999 he moved onto Wing
Staff, however, returned once again to Wigan as CO 12 months
later. A post which he still holds to date.
In November 2004, Eddie became a full-time
Wing Staff Officer, despite being a CO, taking on Staff
development for 3 Sqns, band development and continuing as
the wing Gliding Liaison officer - a role that he has had
for over 8 years.
Outside the ATC, he spent 13 years teaching
IT and Mathematics in a secondary school, followed by a few
years in part-time tuition, and adult teaching.
For the last year he has been a full-time
IT training advisor/tutor with particular responsibility for
the development of Skills For Life training for adults and
is currently studying for the City and Guilds Level 4 Adult
Teacher Specialist (Numeracy) qualification.
