Squadron Leader Peter Rowan

Squadron Leader Peter Rowan joined the ATC in 1972 as a cadet with 1982 (Huyton) Squadron in what was then West Lancashire Wing. During his time with the Squadron he completed his gliding scholarship at RAF Burtonwood and was selected for an exchange visit to the United States under the International Air Cadet Exchange Scheme.
He left the Squadron in 1977, as a Flight Sergeant, to study for a Degree at Birmingham University and in 1983 rejoined the ATC as a civilian instructor with 80 (Bolton) Squadron in East Lancashire Wing. Commissioned into the Squadron as a Pilot Officer in 1986, he took command of 1471 (Horwich) Squadron three years later following a short interlude as a Wing Staff Officer
In 1996, Peter returned to a role on Wing staff becoming the Wing Physical Education Officer. In 2002 he was promoted to Squadron Leader and subsequently appointed as the Wing Training Officer, overseeing the introduction of the BTEC First Diploma in Public Services and continuing his responsibility for the International Air Cadet Exchange Scheme within the Wing.
