Guardsman Tony Downes

It is with regret and sadness that we announce the death of Guardsman Tony Downes. An ex Cadet of 430 Squadron, Tony lost his life on the 9th June whilst serving with the British Forces in Afghanistan and doing the job he loved.

Having reached the rank of Sgt he was an outstanding cadet who achieved a great deal during his time with the Corps, culminating in an IACE trip to America in 2003.

When home on leave he would always visit the squadron and was a great boost to moral with his cheeky smile and quick wit. Whenever possible he would also join in with squadron events and parades.

A truly outstanding cadet and soldier he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Former Burnely Air Cadet Joins the RAF Regiment 

A former cadet of 352 ( Burnley ) Squadron, Air Training Corps (ATC), has recently passed the arduous 18 week Trainee Gunners (TG) Course at RAF Honnington in Suffolk , to earn his coveted Royal Air Force Regiment “mudguards”. Click here to read more.

ATC Sunday Parade, Manchester, 4th February 2007
