PRESS RELEASE - 13th MARCH 2007
Sir John Timmins opens Rochdale Air Cadets' New Building
Sunday 11th March saw the opening of 1263 (Rochdale) Squadron Air Training Corps headquarters building extension, incorporating enlarged indoor training areas and uniform stores. The all important drill area has also been extended and resurfaced.
Rochdale Council has contributed £3,500 in grant aid for fitting out the premises with new computer equipment linked on its own ' intranet'.
The Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Colonel Sir John Timmins, officially opened the building extension. Also at the ceremony were the Lady Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Jean Hornby and Wing Commander Roy Catterall, Officer Commanding East Lancashire Wing ATC.
Sir John particularly complimented 1263 Squadron on its significant contribution to the Greater Manchester Poppy Appeal collections, which had broken new records. The cadets have won the Davenport Trophy for the best Rochdale area cadet unit collection team. They have won this for the last 10 out of 12 years - the last nine consecutively. In 2006 the squadron collected £4252.17 for the Poppy Appeal and also £1352 was collected for RAFA - the Royal Air Forces Association.
Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Dave Rimmer conducted guests round the new accommodation and opportunities were taken to talk to cadets, staff and members of the Civilian Committee. |
