What is Millennium Volunteers (MV)?
MV is a scheme designed to recognise the contribution to the community that Cadets offer. Although it mirrors the Duke of Edinburgh's service section, you do not have to be in the DofE scheme to take part. A separate badge (like the one pictured) is awarded, usually during a public event.
Who can take part in the MV scheme?
Anyone between the ages of 16 and 25. Staff can also take part! Also, it does not cost anything to the individual.
What do I have to do?
Due to the work cadets and staff complete now, no further commitment is necessary. The award is in two stages. The 100 hour and 200 hour. A certificate is awarded at the 100 hour, and then the badge at the 200 hour stage.
After registering and receiving the log book, keep a log of all the qualifying hours you do. Once reaching the 100 stage, get your Squadron Commander to counter sign your book, and forward it to Wing HQ.
What are Qualifying Hours?
Qualifying hours are hours that count towards the award. These can be gained through normal parade evenings (up to 2.5 hours a night). In additional, there is a wide range of activities that also falls under the qualifying bracket. Some of these include:
- Time spent on camp (up to 8/9 hours a day)
- Sunday parades
- Preparation work at home (NCOs / staff cadets)
- RAFA/Wings/ Sqn funds collecting
- Anything outside of Cadets where you are doing something for someone else
The list is endless. Your Squadron Commander can tell you more about the Qualifying hours. Can I backdate my hours?
Yes, you can. As long as you are over 16, you can backdate your hours to your 16th birthday - but only a maximum of 50 hours!
What will I get out of it?
You will gain a Nationally endorsed certificate and badge that recognises the work you put into the organisation.
How can I apply
Fill out the application form above, and pass it to your Squadron Commander for checking. He/She will then forward it to Wing HQ for registration. Within a few weeks you will receive your log book.
